Tom Brady Car Accident

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was involved in a car accident on the morning of September 9, 2010, in Boston, Massachusetts. The Associated Press quoted a law enforcement official on the scene of the wreck as saying that "Brady was unhurt in the accident." The wreck reportedly happened just after 6:30 a.m. local time in the Back Bay area of Boston. Brady's Audi sedan collided with a passenger van at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Gloucester Street.

Shortly after news of Brady's accident broke, a post on the official Patriots Twitter account said Brady "was not hospitalized and is expected at Gillette Stadium today." ESPN said Brady did indeed report to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro after the accident and did participate in a pre-practice walkthrough. He was not expected to speak to the media on September 9.

Boston police are said to be investigating the cause of the accident. The ''Boston Globe'' reports that Brady was driving on Gloucester Street and had a green light at the intersection of Commonwealth, when the driver of the minivan ran a red light, causing the collision. The ''Globe'' quotes a witness as saying that Brady "seemed a little shaken" as he got out of his vehicle just after the accident. One person in the van reportedly suffered injuries. The ''Boston Globe'' says rescue crews had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the man from the minivan. He was taken to a local hospital and his condition wasn't immediately known.

Brady and the New England Patriots are set to face the Cincinnati Bengals for their regular season opener at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, September 12, 2010. ESPN says Brady "is close to finalizing a contract extension" with the Patriots, and contract negotiations were said to be ongoing. ESPN adds that Brady's new contract would likely be valued "between $72 and $80 million."
