How to Get the Highest Trade Value for Your Current Car

Adam Burwell has been selling used cars for over 17 years, and he knows what to look for when people bring their current cars for a trade-in.

First step in getting the highest trade-in value for your car- create a story.

You can create a story by documenting all maintenance and repairs done to your vehicle, including things as minor as changing out a dome lightbulb. You'll get even better value if your documentation shows all maintenance done by a manufacturer, as they have factory trained technicians and use factory parts.

The second step is to take your vehicle, in the event of an accident, to a dealer or manufacturer recommended body shop, as they will do the best repairs that meet manufacturers guidelines.

The third step is basic cosmetic and daily upkeep of your vehicle. Before having the vehicle appraised, consider having it detailed to remove any dirt and odors that be lingering.

Please note that some odors, such as pets or tobacco smoke, may be almost impossible to remove.
