There has been a gaping hole in the mid-sized car segment from Ford with the loss of the Taurus a few years back.People are really starting to notice the new Hybrid power plant modification in the Fusion. Ford officially released the Fusion Hybrid recently at the Los Angeles Auto Show late in 2008. What makes this Ford so special is the excellent in-town gas mileage that the hybrid can get.Driving the Fusion Hybrid around town will net you over 40 miles per gallon which far outshines the Camry and even the fuel efficient civic hybrid.Thanks to an electric motor, the Ford can go up to 47 miles per hour.It has been written about and this system has been used by many to get better MPG than the EPA says are possible.
Technology in the Fusion allows drivers to learn which style of driving is best for maximizing fuel economy.Ford has made a smart feature built into the gauge cluster called the Smart Gauge.A couple of different info categories are displayed on two screens next to the gauge cluster.The driver can see the amount of gasoline and the amount of electric charge left in the batteris through the 1st info screen.The second gauge tells which mode the car in in; electric or hybrid, and it also shows the RPM’s. The third screen displays engine and battery output power.Finally, the last screen shows data in power to the wheels and additional power consumption.The info centers in the Fusion display MGP, fuel consumption past data, a driving log, and radiator temp. The real time MPG information can show drivers which driving style is best for fuel economy.
The navigation system also houses the Hybrid Energy Flow Display.This display will exhibit the five modes of the Hybrid Pwer Train in cluding things like the regenerative braking, the elestric engine boost, and various hybrid and electric drive systems, and finally the charge while at idle.
The For Fusion is unique among other hybrids in that recycled yarns were used to make the seats, another eco modification first. After watching Toyota and Honda sell millions of hybrid vehicles; Ford has finally came out with a fuel efficient car that will appeal to the masses.
