Honda is recalling 43,200 Acura RL sedans due to a faulty power steering hose that may crack from engine heat and pose a fire hazard, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which just released the information on its website today. When the hose cracks it can leak flammable fluid and cause a fire if sparked by a hot catalytic converter. The recall — affecting 2005-2008 model year RLs — was issued because of two fires in automobiles in Japan, which led to an internal investigation from Honda’s Tokyo headquarters.
Honda has already begun notifying owners of the hazard and will have dealers replace the hose with a heat-resistant version.
