Each year, between 30-40 children die from hyperthermia when left in hot vehicles. To prevent summer tragedies, child safety engineers at GM are working with Safe Kids to offer tips to parents. First, never leave your child alone in a vehicle;
small children cannot roll down windows, unlock doors or unbuckle themselves. As a reminder that your child is in the backseat, place your cell phone, purse or briefcase on the floor in front of your child's car seat. Be sure it's something you always carry with you.
In addition, make it a habit to check the back seat when you exit, and call 911 immediately if you see children left unattended in a car. For more tips, go to www.safekids.org.
